This is my facebook post from June 30 2014:
"Heaven
help me! Both of my boys have figured out how to climb out of their
cribs! Dash did it for the first time over a month ago but hasn't tried
it much since but them Liam got the hang of it yesterday. I just found
them both out of their cribs with a jar a Vaseline! I have put them both
back in twice and yep they are out again! Ahhhh!!!"
Later I posted this:
"There
they go again pounding on the door! We've been doing this for an hour
now, they are usually asleep within minutes of me putting them down! I'm
not ready for this yet they still have 4 months till they are 2!"
My first solution was to drop the mattress all the way to the floor but that only worked in Dash's crib, Liam's couldn't do that. So then we turned them backwards so the highest part of the crib was facing out. We had the cribs spaced apart so the boys wouldn't bug each other or wake the other one up by reaching into his crib (which they had done) but once they started climbing they got stuck between the two or between the wall and the crib so we had to position them just right for safety. But that only worked for a little while.
Dash is very proud of himself! Cute little stinker!
Then July 19th I posted:
"Progress. We took the front off Dash's crib
since he just climbs out or into Liam's crib during nap time (at night
he is usually fine). So instead of spending an hour putting him back in
repeatedly until he gives up and goes to sleep, this time he just
emptied one draw of clothes then fell asleep on the floor
I'll take it!" But actullay this solution didn't work either because he would play and destroy his room instead of sleeping.
The next idea was Luke's, he tied sheets over the top to keep the boys in and it was quite effective for a few weeks. Here is my corresponding Facebook post:
"Liam climbed out of his crib opened the door and
walked out of his room! He's supposed to be taking a nap! This is our
most current solution.....sheets tied over the top, don't judge us! And
he still got out!"
So we decided we had to take the fronts off both of their cribs so they wouldn't get hurt trying to climb out. The result of this was that they pulled the curtains off the walls, as well as decorations. They have pulled out all of their drawers and clothes repeatedly, pulled off the vent cover repeatedly and put things down inside, they climb on anything that is in there and I'm sure there is more! So we took everything out of their room except their cribs, a fan (which they have broken repeatedly but still works and doesn't pose a safety hazard), and their empty dresser. But that made things too boring so they (mostly Dash) would jump on Liam's bed because it was still on springs and made a fun sound when he did. They would also crawl under the mattress, fall asleep halfway under the crib (Liam) and so on. So our most current and up to date solution (as Sept 21) is they both have a mattress on the floor with a rail to keep them from rolling out (which they often pull out and play with). I either try to go somewhere right around naptime so that they fall asleep in the car and then transfer them to their beds, or I put Dash down first and let him fall asleep before I put Liam down. They both fall asleep much quicker when there is no one or thing to play with. Dash goes down first because he would wake Liam up on purpose if Liam went down first and Liam would just go to sleep if Dash already was. Well, actually, Liam used to be the nice one, but recently he often will crawl into Dash's bed and take out his pacifier or try to wake him. Most of the time I find them cuddled together in each other's beds. (: They are a handful for sure but the are adorable!
